[NEWS] Full-time professor of the Faculty of Orthodox Theology of the University of Belgrade and member of its Biblical Institute elected Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church

The Holy Council of Bishops of the Serbian Orthodox Church, at its session on February 18, 2021 in the Memorial Church of Saint Sava in Belgrade, elected His Eminence the Metropolitan of Zagreb and Ljubljana, Dr. Porfirije (Perić), as the Patriarch of the Serbian Orthodox Church. His Holiness Patriarch Porfirije is a full-time professor at the Faculty of  Orthodox Theology of the University of Belgrade. As a professor at both departments for biblical and practical theology, he has been teaching New Testament Theology, Pastoral Psychology and The Theology of the Epistles of the Apostle Paul for many years. His Holiness participated in the founding of the Biblical Institute of the Faculty of the Orthodox Theology and as its member contributed to the promotion of the biblical studies in the Serbian society and beyond its borders. He actively took part in a series of conferences organized by the Institute and thus immeasurably contributed to the spiritual and scholarly level of the Serbian biblical scholarship. He especially contributed to the development of the Serbian theology with the compendium of the studies on Paul: Wisdom Hidden in a Mystery: Essays on the Theology of the Apostle Paul (Belgrade, 2020), as well as with numerous other scholarly papers and popular texts in domestic and international publications.
